A First-Timer's Guide to Driving on Bangladeshi Highways

Bangladeshi highways can be busy and unpredictable. With a little preparation, your self-drive trip will be safe and enjoyable. Here is what every first-timer should know.

Mind the speed limit

Stick to posted limits. Speeding fines apply, and highways often have sudden slow-moving traffic like rickshaws and trucks.

Overtake with care

Only overtake when you have clear visibility. Use your indicators and horn, and never overtake on blind curves.

Night driving

If you can, avoid driving late at night on unfamiliar routes. If you must, keep your headlights clean and reduce your speed.

Toll plazas and rest stops

Keep small cash handy for toll plazas and plan rest stops every couple of hours to stay alert.

Keep these in the car

  • Your documents and rental papers.
  • A phone charger and our support number.
  • Water and basic snacks.

Before every trip, run through our pre-trip safety checklist. Driving in the rain? See our monsoon driving tips.
